Saving our "Sunlight" Darshawnda B.

A wife, daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and so much more. Darshawnda just celebrated her 50th birthday in August, only a few days after her life... Our lives... changed forever... Darshawnda, affectionately know as "Di"; went into the hospital a few short days after her 50th birthday for a urgent brain surgery. After a lengthy surgery, Di came through with flying colors. Di was removed from the breathing aids and began speaking in a whisper with coherent replies and behaviors. The morning following Darshawnda had a breathing trauma. The medical team regain normal vitals. Darshawnda came back... but was no longer communicating. Over the next couple of days medical staff and family kept watch over Di. Unfortunately Di's nightmare wasn't over. Darshawnda underwent surgery to move the feeding tube from her mouth to her abdomen. And her ventilator moved from her mouth and became a Trac. This was all done to allow her air way to heal from the trauma. Within a day or two of those procedures, Darshawnda needed another emergency surgery due to serious infection. Thinking the nitemare would start to end. When an family member came in for her morning visit with Di, and noticed abnormalities with Darshawnda's mouth. The family had no clue that this even had happened or the reason. The medical team was alerted. It was a mystery what happened. Charlotte hospital gives Di's family a list of facilities that will accept a patient with so many elements. The closest facility is 1 hour 30 minutes from Darshawnda's family. Di was transferred out of town to the new facility where her family had to drive daily to care for her. Not long after the transferred to a new facility, Darshawnda's family is told by hospital staff that the insurance has stopped pay for Darshawnda's care. Darshawnda has maintained the maximum coverage of Health insurance for 10 years plus. What happened???

The hospital has decided to send her home. How do we care for her with no insurance or finances to pay for the necessary care personnel or equipment? We need help with nurses, medication, and equipment. Darshawnda was the primary caregiver of her husband, mother and father. To know Di is to love her, be it her smile, laugh, jollyness, or just the sunshine she bring to any room she enters with her "Top Of The Morning". She is still here and it's not over until God says it is. Please help us to preserve our "Sunshine" Darshawnda H. Brown.
