Saving Private Luna

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may know, our little Luna has had a traumatic experience and we are very lucky to have her here with us.

This past week, Luna suffered a grand mal seizure that lasted over 2.5 hours. The vet said anything after 5 mins is critical. None of the medications were working to stop her seizures, so we had to put her in a coma until the neurologist arrived the following morning. Luna has been in the best hands and was provided the best care. Her doctors assured us that she will not make it and if she does, she will not be Luna anymore. Due to the duration of the seizure and her weight (3lbs), her chances of survival were very slim to nothing. Her treatment plan was changing by the hour, but her body was fighting for survival. Once she was stabilized, we were able to do an MRI, which became another obstacle due to the anesthesia. We learned that Luna has an enlarged heart & a heart murmur which is not always successful with anesthesia. She successfully came out of anesthesia. Her MRI showed a diagnosis of meningoencephalomyelitis which is a fancy term for inflammatory disease in her meninges & her brain. We were assured that Luna can have a good quality life with our treatment plan that consists of chemo, steroids, and anti-seizure meds. Currently, Luna is mentally there, but physically challenged. Due to the prolonged seizure, her legs have become temporarily paralyzed and she will continue to be epileptic. Luna has a long road to recovery and we are grateful for the support we have received from family and friends. For 3lbs, she is the strongest little girl we have ever seen and we are hopeful for a quick recovery! She surprised us all, including her doctors. We are asking for help to support Luna’s journey.
