Saving Rabbit's Run

Will you help me save my family home and a piece of the Old South?

In 2010, my mother died, leaving me the home my parents and I had enjoyed since 1963.  I have poured almost all my savings into restoring it—replacing rotted wood, putting on a new roof, waterproofing much of the basement, and fighting the thieves who stole all the copper downspouts.

I am a journalist and author. (Please see the story I wrote about the house in Southern Living magazine. http://www.southernliving.com/home/alanna-nash-family-home). While many people think writers make a lot of money, a la John Grisham, most of us surely do not.  I have enjoyed writing my biographies of singer Dolly Parton and Jessica Savitch (the late NBC news anchorwoman) and my four books about Elvis Presley.  But they do not generate the money I need to save this beautiful Southern Colonial—5,000 square feet of house (if you include the basement), a three-car garage, and nearly two acres of land.  Built in 1947, it has great bones, but structurally, it still needs so much!  (My sister is now disabled and widowed and cannot help.)  Phase one of restoration would include a new heating system, and getting rid of the radon, mildew and mold.  If I can get it back in great shape, which would require a total goal of $300,000, I would open the house up to community events, and as a meeting place for people to talk about popular culture and their favorite artists and musicians.

Please help me honor my parents’ legacy and renovate this glorious relic of a romantic, bygone era.
