Saving The Vicky After A Devastating Fire

Hello, my name is Shawn Whitaker, and I'm creating this fundraiser due to multiple requests from members in the community that have been following my "SavingTheVicky" restoration journey on Facebook of a 1910 Victorian home that was one of the original 160 acre homesteads of the township of Ustick.

If you go to "SavingTheVicky" Facebook page you can read in the "About" section a summation of how the journey began. In the most recent Video post dated March 20th, 2024 I was showing how I was rebuilding the stairs prior to the grand opening.

My labor of love caught fire sometime around 10 pm Friday night March 22nd, 2024. Not only did that fire consume all of my restoration tools and personal belongings, it took 2 of my 3 family members and companions (akc standard poodles) "Teddy" & "Gunner".

"Vicky" the white poodle, named after the Victorian home, joined me and "Teddy" in 2021 right after my divorce started. She did survive physically but I can tell she misses the other 2 as do I. I want to try and find a new male family member (akc standard poodles) as soon as possible for her (future puppies) and myself, not to replace "Teddy" & "Gunner" but to help fill the void we both feel.

This fundraiser is not for a companion for "Vicky" but a proactive solution to what I can only imagine to be a very time consuming process if I am able to rebuild. I'm fully aware how long it takes to get building permits and in this situation the building plans I submitted back in 2019/2020 for the initial renovation will not work and full architectural building plans will be required, which I do not have and could take 4 - 8 weeks.

Not knowing the outcome/timeline with the insurance company God willing I would like to rebuild the home to look more like the original "Victorian Queen Anne" glory intended by George F. Barber with his design #10, that appeared in his pattern book entitled “Modern Dwellings and Their Proper Construction. A book of Practical Designs and Plans For Those Who Wish to Build or Beautify Their Homes”, the third edition which was published in 1901.

In summation "All Money" from the fundraiser will be going towards getting a head start on architectural building plans to rebuild "The Vicky" to its intended glory. All funds will be fully accounted for through updates, documented and most importantly to the rebuilding of this home.
