Amy has now passed on, thanks for your support

Donation protected
Update: On the 22nd May, Amy took her butterfly wings and has flown on to the next place.

We would like something to continue in her honour, though we are not sure what or how yet.

Thanks for all your support, we were so close yet so far.

Funds raised were transferred into Amy's account - so when the dust settles, like other donators we have have suggested to the family that the money goes towards her funeral, while her family hopes the money can be used to help others. We will keep you updated.

Will you please help save my daughter?

Amy has suffered all her life with anorexia

She has tried so hard and done what is asked of her but now she needs specialist help.

Amy is such a lovely and caring person.

Prior to becoming ill, Amy worked and raised money for charity. Her hope and wish is to recover and begin to help others again.

She can’t achieve this dream however without our help!!

Eating disorders are not a choice. They are an illness. Just the same as any other mental or physical illness.

Please will you donate? To help her recover and save her life?

I don’t want my daughter to die. She has so much to live for.

Thank you

Lyn Ellis (Amy's mum).

This GoFundMe has been created by the Saving Amy team in the hope it can help save Amy's life.
The Priory has been identified for support as it is has the treatments recommended in NICE guidelines that are currently unavailable on the NHS in her area.
We've been advised for this severe case that has lasted for so many years, 6 months plus aftercare is needed.
Previously we were advised by the Priory, that it would cost £7680 a week, plus an initial £300 assessment. This has changed to £8225 in Surrey! However! In Glasgow it is £6965 now with a free consultation, so we are using that slightly lower weekly price. We will keep you updated if this changes.
To give Amy the best chance is overcoming this, the aim is for 26 weeks: £181,090
The NHS says that they cannot help Amy. Can you?

Here is a little bit more about the case (adapted from a Leader article):
Amy was an international development charity worker NGO before her disease crippled her. She has been battling severe anorexia since her early childhood.

“My earliest memories began about aged 4,” Amy, from Broughton, said.
“An eating disorder, as we now understand, is part genetics and part environment’.
Amy said her’s largely stems from a traumatic childhood.
As she grew up, her eating disorder took control over her whole life.

While trying to get better under local care, Amy developed refeeding syndrome and says she is now “sicker than ever”.

“I am too ill to live a normal life,” she said.
“I need a wheelchair to go any distance outside of the house.”
“I try hard everyday to help myself, to keep myself going. I don’t want to die – I am afraid.”

The only treatment being offered by her local authority is the one that was tried, and not only failed, but made her condition much worse.

There is other care available, but unfortunately it is not in Wales, it is in England. The Priory for example offers specialist, individually tailored help including Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) as well as Dietetic support, occupational therapy and Body image workshops. These treatments are recommended by NICE guidelines and could give her the best chance of survival of this disease. However they are not among the treatment options currently offered in her area.

NHS Wales has funded Priory Treatment for others in Amy's situation, and we are asking them to do so for Amy too.

Amy said: “And why would anyone consider helping me when the whole world is suffering?
“Because I don’t want to die, I want to do good. I am just asking for help to stay alive. I want to give my mam her daughter back, and one she can be truly proud of. The sister and auntie I could never be. I want to die an old lady surrounded by family, not like this tormented by my illness"

Amy said: "I want to live and carry on helping people.”

(Writing above is adapted from a Leader article about Amy by Joe Robinson)

Amy has tried helping herself with funding, including raising awareness on TikTok (@savingamycymru) and a YouTube channel, and gaining help from Simon Quick (via JustGiving) who has been fundraising for Amy, for treatment and specialist equipment such as an adjustable bed that Amy urgently needs, but despite all the hard work, it's not currently enough for the treatment. If the NHS Wales could pay for the treatment in England as it has paid for others, this could save Amy's life.

Amy said many people still don’t realise that eating disorders aren’t a life choice.
“I don’t choose to live this way, “she said.
“Just like no one chooses to have any kind of mental, or physical illness.”
