Saving baby Dominic

A tragedy occurred on March 10th in the town of Marilla, NY. A toddler was beaten to death by his babysitter. The toddler was not alone in the home. His 8 month old brother, Dominic, was also there. Luckily, he did not sustain any injuries in this vicious attack.

Dominic was removed from the home, along with his older sister and brother and placed in the care of a family friend. The family friend was not able to continue caring for Dominic. On Tuesday, March 14th, a case was brought in front of an Erie County family court judge to place Dominic into foster care. His parents provided a list of "approved" people. No one showed up for the case, except for his paternal grandmother ("Ouma"), Rhiannon. Rhiannon, a former foster parent, was not on that list provided by the parents. The judge heard her case and granted custody of baby Dominic to Rhiannon.

Rhiannon is the single mom of a 7 year old little girl. Being a single mom is to one child is hard enough; now, she has an infant too. She is already struggling to make ends meet and is in need of financial assistance to take care of Dominic. Currently, she is not receiving any assistance from the county for being Dominic's foster parent.

Some of the expenses she is/will be incurring are including but not limited to day care, baby furniture, and her unpaid time off under FMLA.
