Hello! My name is Riot, nice to meet you! I am about five years old and I have quite the charming smile. Most days, you can find me lying in bed, looking for a lap to climb into, or spending time in the yard with my human friends.
I ended up at Dutchess County SPCA because my family could no longer care for me. Unfortunately, about a year ago I was hit by a car, and my family wasn’t able to take me to the vet, so I did not receive proper treatment. Even though I survived, it wasn’t without injury. Doctor Glassman was nice enough to do an x-ray for me, and they found out that the head of my femur is shattered! The doctors were in shock, because this is incredibly painful. Can you imagine? Every time there is movement in my hip it hurts, all day, every day. I don’t let keep me down though! In fact, they tell me there’s a surgery that could help me, and that I might be a good candidate for it! The surgery is called Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO), which will clean up the shattered part of my hip. With that removed, it will be much less painful for me. This surgery gives me the best chance to keep my leg and not be in pain anymore. It is not possible, however, without your help!
I have won over many hearts here, and everyone would like to give me the best chance possible! As of right now, there is not enough money in the Emergency Medical Fund to cover the surgery and any after care that will follow. With help from our community, and all the amazing people who will read my story, I may be able to keep my leg and live a completely normal life! We are hoping to raise 15,000 dollars; any donation will help, no matter how big or small. Even if I end up not qualifying for this specific surgery, I will likely need an amputation. Your donation will help cover my medical costs and any additional donations will be put towards the Emergency Medical Fund to help any other animals that need extensive medical care!
