Say Their Names Memorial (Kirkland, WA)

The Say Their Names Memorial is a nationwide initiative to honor Black lives taken by systemic racism and racial injustice. The memorial was started in Portland, OR on Juneteenth, 2020 and has since been put up in over 25 locations nationwide. The selected names were chosen to represent the large number of Black lives that have been lost since the mid-nineteenth century. These are the faces of mothers, fathers, children, activists, community members, all loved ones taken from their families and our country too soon. This memorial is not exhaustive, and we need your help to learn the stories of those faces not included here.

We are grateful to be partnering with St. John's Episcopal Church and other places of worship in the area to bring this memorial to Kirkland, Washington. Our goal is to offer a chance for reflection and to spur dialogue among community members in an effort to better understand the role each of us plays in ongoing, systematic racism, while honoring those lives taken by it.

We are raising money to cover the cost of materials and supplies for the installation in Kirkland, Washington, including fresh flowers, tools, and other supplies needed.  Any funds, supplies, or even a helping hand on install day would be greatly appreciated! We anticipate the memorial will be defaced and vandalized, making it so that we will need to regularly refresh the photos and flowers. Spending of donated funds will be transparent through providing updates on expenses via Go Fund Me. Any remaining funds will be donated to a non-profit organization with a social justice mission.

The installation of the memorial has been completed and will be accessible to the public through November 30 at six locations:
