Saya's life-saving kidney surgery
Donation protected
Hi. I'm trying to raise money to help save my dog, Saya.
I got Saya as a rescue about four years ago, when she was three. I was told Saya had some medical and behavioural issues, but I wasn't aware of how extreme some of her problems were going to be.
She had extreme aggression issues triggered by very random fears. I could barely get a collar on her, give her a bath, cut her nails, pick her up, touch her feet, etc. I couldn't have friends over as she was a major bite risk for strangers. It was really sad. She obviously had had a tough life.
After a while together, Saya finally started to become accustomed to her new life. She put on almost 50% of her body weight, finally loved walks and treats and toys.
Unfortunately, then, her medical issues began. Before I got Saya, she had a massive kidney stone removed. It turns out she must be very prone to kidney and urinary tract issues. Every 12-16 months since I've gotten her, Saya has had a major medical emergency, including the removal of two kidney stones.
These surgeries have costed over $3000 each time. On top of this, Saya had an emergency with her liver last July which also cost $1000s. I have managed to pay for these emergencies in the past, but it hasn't been easy. I've been in graduate school and was living on less than $20 000 a year in Toronto. Over the last three years, I've put about $10 000+ into Saya.
Saya is now extremely sick again. She has almost lost control of her bladder, leaving my apartment covered in pee nearly every day, requiring hours a day of cleaning. She is peeing blood and can no longer go for walks because she is too uncomfortable.
It is clear that she has had another kidney stone develop. Her symptoms and discomfort are getting worse every day. Based on how larger her former stones have been, they will not dissolve on her own. The vet told me that her last stone would have killed her if not removed, and it was the same with the one before that. You can see in the vet report attached below that the most recent stone was 22mm large.
I'm in a tough spot. I try my best to be ready for these emergencies, but the last year has been especially financially difficult and I am, honestly, completely broke. I have no reasonable way to pay for yet another $3000 surgery.
Saya is my best friend and I love her more than anything. We've been through a lot together. She's had a really tough life, with a majority of her first three years in a bad situation / stuck in a kennel. I wish more than anything I could get her this surgery so she could return to being a happy dog. She's only six years old. But I can't handle the thousands of dollars in vet bills anymore.
As this surgery has cost around $3000-3500 in the past, I'm ideally trying to raise $2000 and will put the final $1000 on credit. If you are able to provide anything to help me try to save my dog, I would be so so grateful.
thank u xxx
(in the chance donations are made but I do not raise enough and am unable to go through with the surgery, I will return all funds. I can also provide proof of surgery bills afterwards if anyone wants them)
