Saying Goodbye to Staci from Shelton & Sharon!

Nearly two weeks ago, an Angel was taken from the Scurlock family .Staci Lynn Scurlock was admitted into the hospital. We assumed was a non, life-threatening medical emergency. We were told, Covid 19, pneumonia and a non-specified breathing condition. But, we reasoned that she had been admitted into the hospital before (in June of this year), so we were not particularly alarmed. Staci had always bounced back, with no severe repercussions, that we were aware of. But, then we had to face the realization that things began to take a turn for the worse.
Shelton, now had to face the cold, hard facts: Staci’s condition quickly began to deteriorate. His 80-year-old mother who is currently, herself, in a nursing facility, because she severely ill, is beginning to question Shelton about Staci’s condition, but he has no concrete answers. So, she was frustrated and perplexed.
The diagnoses and prognoses from the medical personnel appeared be inconsistent and seemingly contradictory. Shelton was unable to weigh the level of risk relative as to her real medical condition. This was probably due to the multiple number of diagnoses she had been given. Was it the Covid virus, or, the pneumonia or was it congested heart failure that was complicating the healing processes. All these multifactorial variables were making it harder and harder to predict the myriad of possible consequences that may be possible outcomes.
The uncertainty was becoming unbearable for Shelton. He was beginning to feel more and more hopeless. Nevertheless, even in his worse feelings of ambiguity, uncertainty and confusion, he could have never imagined her eventual death!
Ultimately, the day came last week, when the doctors had tried to revive her multiple times and finally, they agreed that they could do no more.
The medical staff removed the respirators after their final attempt to revive her. They proceeded to give Shelton a few minutes to spend with his sister (as she transitioned from this life). While I can’t go into their private, last conversation, because that information is “sacred”. Just let me say, he put every ounce of strength he could muster to reassure and comfort her in her final moments on earth. I believe she heard him, and was soothed by his words, because soft, gentle tears streamed from Staci’s eyes. In essence, he had provided the support and solace, that only a big, older brother, that you have loved your whole life, could give.
In that moment in time, the earth stopped rotating and nothing mattered but Staci, in the arms of her brother, two hearts beating as one. What love...
