Nathan Williams reentry into society.

My name is Nathan Williams, and I am a 27-year-old male currently incarcerated in prison. After being incarcerated since May 23rd, 2017, I am being released in April 2024. While the prospect of being paroled is hopeful, I am also keenly aware of the many challenges that lie ahead. Reentering society is daunting, especially considering the responsibilities that come with it, such as finding housing, securing employment, and navigating life as an ex-felon with two strikes. Compounded by the lack of substantial family support, I am facing the reality of having to rebuild my life with limited resources.

I have taken proactive steps by reaching out to housing authorities in California, seeking placement on a waiting list for Section 8 or low-income housing. I am aware of emergency Section 8 housing programs, but I anticipate challenges due to the absence of financial statements and proof of residence for the past five years, as well as my inexperience in filing for housing assistance. The fear of potentially facing homelessness upon my release is overwhelming, as having no place of my own will undoubtedly hinder my ability to navigate this transition effectively.

My ultimate goal is to work diligently and earn the means to provide a stable home for myself and my 9-year-old daughter. I understand that the initial 3-5 months post-release will be particularly demanding, and the prospect of needing assistance is difficult to accept. However, I am determined to prove that I can contribute to society and provide a secure future for my family.

I sincerely seek a chance to rebuild my life and contribute positively to my community. I am committed to embracing the opportunity for a fresh start and am hopeful for the support and guidance that will enable me to achieve this.
