South Bushwick Reformed Church Spire Restoration
Donation protected
The purpose of this campaign is to raise money for necessary repairs to our landmark church building in order to continue providing ministry to our community as we have done for 170 years.
On August 4, 2020, Tropical Storm Isaias brought 70-80 mile winds to Brooklyn. The church spire, already leaning slightly to the north, is now leaning to the point of near collapse. In 2020, the NYLC & Landmarks Commission, in collaboration with our church, brought in an experienced structural engineer Donald Friedman, whose firm, Old Structures, has designed reinforcement of the structural frame at the base or attic level of the spire. After the underlying timber frame is stabilized with steel brackets, the spire will not worsen with future wind events. This urgent repair, to be performed to prevent further movement and collapse of the spire, has been competitively bid, and will cost $250,000. If the spire is not stabilized soon, it is at severe risk of collapse. This project will ensure that our beautiful historic church will be preserved to continue our ministry to the community for at least another 170 years.
We want to be able to continue to provide activities through the arts for people in our community, provide shelters for homeless and the underserved in our community, and continue to be a ministry that provides needed items to families who have experienced crises. We would like to raise the funds ASAP. We are asking individuals to donate what they can to reach our goal. No donation is too big or small. Your support will mean so much to us, our congregation, and to the families, that benefits from our ministry. Please take the time to visit our Church page www.southnbushwickchurch.org to see some of the things we have done and the history created through our ministry
Located at 855 Bushwick Avenue in the heart of Brooklyn, South Bushwick Church seeks to create a loving multi-generational/multi-cultural worshipping community that leads God’s people to live a wholistic and transformative life. We at SBRC Unapologetically share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music, practical principles, and servitude.
We thank you for your consideration and your generosity. We hope that you can come and fellowship with us at some point in the near future.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
