Sheryl Williams is the mother of my friend, Kyle, a fellow Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Benicia. Sheryl has worked as an Administrative Assistant for the City of Vacaville for the past 20 years (7 years with the Police Department and 13 years with the Fire Department). Sheryl and her husband Greg have been married for 38 years, they have two children,(Megan and Kyle), newly added daughter in law(Julie) and newest addition, granddaughter (Bailey).
On June 5th of 2019 she was diagnosed with ALS ( Lou Gehrig's Disease). Following the diagnoses, Sheryl retired from the City of Vacaville to begin treatment as well as spend much more time with her friends and family.
As Firefighters, we are taught to have the backs of of our fellow firefighters at all time, no matter the situation or the duration. We all have come to refer to this as the Brotherhood/Sisterhood. This also extends to the families of our members and can be seen all over the country. In many instances following tragic line of duty deaths or debilitating injuries, the Brotherhood/Sisterhood has stepped up and taken care of our family members.
What is ALS?
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Voluntary muscle action is progressively affected causing people to lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.
About 90% of ALS cases occur without a family history.
Currently, there is no cure for ALS
What is our goal?
The ultimate goal is to help the Williams family offset the increasing cost to fight this illness, help pay for accessibility adaptations, medications, treatments as well as pay for in home care.
This page will help do just that. Have the backs of our brother and sisters, and their families.
