“One Day At A Time”
As many of you know or are now learning, Makai Price was involved in a horrific car accident December 8th while leaving school. The details of the crash are still being investigated. Makai is critically injured and currently in the Intensive Care Unit. As a result of the accident, he suffered multiple broken bones and fractures throughout his entire body. His brain, spinal cord, and organs have been severely impacted as well. The doctors are still evaluating Makai’s condition. The number one concern right now is saving his legs from amputation. Makai will be undergoing numerous surgeries in the future. The Price family has experienced a sudden and life-changing tragedy.
Makai is the son of Jerome and April Price and the youngest brother to Darius, Isaiah, and Xzavier. Makai is an impressive young man and athlete. He excels in and out of the classroom competing in football, basketball, and track. His intelligence, kindness, and athleticism touch everyone around him. He attended Rock Canyon and is currently a senior at Cherry Creek High School.
The Price family is well known, loved by many, and has very close ties in several communities. They are a tight-knit family devoted to education through teaching, coaching, special education, and Unified Sports. April is an experienced preschool teacher just starting at a new school. Jerome is a beloved Educational Assistant for students with severe special needs and does respite care for numerous families whose children have disabilities. He coaches football and runs the Unified Sports program at Rock Canyon High School. He also coaches track and field at Castle View High School. He has poured his heart and soul into making a positive impact on our youth throughout South Denver.
Now is the time for us to come together as a community to provide love, support, and financial assistance for the Price family during this difficult time. As you can imagine, Jerome, April, and the boys are struggling to get through each hour. There are still so many unknowns, but we do know that this family will need help now and well into the future. Besides the obvious emergency and forthcoming medical expenses, time off of work, and the expected homecare and rehab, the Price family will need to make many life adjustments. Being at a new job, April is not yet eligible for Family and Medical Leave Assistance. In order to accommodate Makai’s care, they will also need to change their living arrangements.
We’re asking everyone to contribute to the Price family's needs by making a donation.
