Granny Mambo Dancer Dreams

As age creeps upon us we start to desire things that sometimes feel out of our reach. limitations are not an option with hard work and dedication. At 67 my dreams hit me like a wave and opened up doors to a love that filled me with the confidence every woman deserves. I am now hitting my goals head on by becoming a competitive Latin dancer. I competed and so far have won 10 medals and 2 gold. As a spicy 67 year old woman I am now known as Granny Mambo!
I was Introduced to Latin dancing 11 years ago and felt it in my soul. However with no prior dance experience, age, and lack of consistency I found it extremely challenging to improve my skill. I joined dance teams and realized how real my love for dancing was. At any age practicing is the key to success and by adding a partner to my training journey I improved my dance skills tremendously.
In 2019 the pandemic changed my life. I struggled and still do from long haul Covid and watched my health and body fail me. I become overweight, experienced labored breathing while doing normal tasks, as well intestinal problems. Social media kept me afloat while watching my fellow dancers and friends dance while my own heart yearned to be out on the dance floor. I kept remaining myself that I would be back. Finally with the help of a power greater than me, a dream that would not die, a chiropractor, diet and exercise I am healing and getting into the best shape of my life. I have the normal effects of age now (ie arthritis, shoulder problems, etc.) that try and derail me but somehow I barrel forth to make this dream come true and encourage others. I am training with coaches and a partner who are taking my dancing to a whole new level. No matter how challenging I don’t quit. Practice, practice, practice is my motto. When I'm not dancing I'm working my day job as a Nanny and being a Granny to my 5 beautiful grandchildren.
I competed at Tristate Congress and came in 2nd place in several events in the 50 and over category after only training for 4 months. I am so excited to share that I was encouraged to perform on February 9th at the NYSBKZ Congress in NYC. It is an International event where the best of the best perform. To be surrounded with these unbelievably talented people will be an honor. I was derailed to the World Summit due to costs and training to pursue my dance goal to go for the gold. I am more determined then ever now to compete. First up though is 3 other competitions, Tristate, NY, New Jersey before the Summit
Update. Update!!!! Won 2 golds at Tristate.
The costs associated with attending this functions along with training such as lessons, traveling, lodging, costumes and etc. are becoming very costly and at the point where I can no longer do it alone. I am asking for sponsorship and donations to help keep my dream alive. Every bit helps, even if it is just words of support!
Thank you again.
