#ScatterShineForJess - Plants for the Claus Family

I’m Lauren Pratt, landscape designer and owner of Pratt Landscape Design in the Central Valley of California. Thursday, May 2nd, I was sitting at my desk when a friend-turned-client called to ask me for a favor. She said that their very dear friends had lost their son to suicide the week before and were asking family and friends to send plants in his honor, so which plant should she choose? We talked about their history together and I found out just how special this family was to my friends. They had known each other their whole lives. She had nannied their kids. There were multiple connections between the families. It all struck a chord with me and I felt like I needed to do something more.

As a fellow plant-lover, I want to honor Jess’ memory by filling the Clauses yard with his favorite colors and plants that I know will bring them joy for years to come. One of the goals of my business has always been to do service for others, in projects I hashtag with “scatter shine”. It’s one of my favorite hymns at church and the main idea of it is “scattering sunshine all along your way”. This is our way of bringing sunshine into the lives of a family who are suffering with this massive loss. It’s the least we can do.
