School Desks for Dufailly, Haiti
Donation protected
Seating arrangement in the classrooms at the Heavenly Love School rely on old wooden benches that can no longer accommodate the student population of the school. Each desk/bench is about 5 feet long but has to accommodate 6 or 7 students. That situation makes the task of learning difficult for the students. Therefore, there is a need for us to buy new seats for the classrooms to make learning more accommodating. Our goal is to purchase 250 seats at $25 per seat. This will accommodate grades 1 thru 6.
The School serves the children of Dufailly, a rural town in the central mountains of Haiti. Dufailly is about 45 miles from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti and has about 5000 inhabitants. Most families in Haiti live on less than one dollar per day. This fact makes school a costly proposition for most since education in Haiti is not free. Parents in this impoverished nation most of the time find themselves negotiating between going without food and other life necessities or using their subsistence to pay for their kids to go to school.
