School of the Air Broken Hill

Hi, my name is Harriet, I have decided to run my first marathon in July. I will compete in the Broken Hill Mad Max Marathon to raise money for the School of the Air (SOTA) Broken Hill. For those unsure what SOTA is, it is a distance education correspondence program, for children living in isolated/rural areas who aren't within travel distance from a town or school. The teachers send their school work out from Broken Hill headquarters via mail. There are also daily face-to-face satellite lessons, and children learn with the support of a governess or parent. My 3 youngest brothers are currently being educated via SOTA, as our closest town is 2 hours south of our station. Without this program, many country kids would have to either leave their properties to move into town or wouldn't have access to education. I want to create awareness of how impactful and important the School of the Air is, in keeping our country kids educated and allowing them the opportunities urban children get.
