School Sponsorship in memory of Brenda Goodwin

We lost our beloved mum on Saturday the 9th May 2020, after a long battle with dementia to Alzheimer’s/COVID-19 - we’ll never know which was ultimately responsible for her death. We do however know that she’s now at peace. Mum wouldn’t have wanted you to spend money on flowers, and due to current rules, we’re limited to 10 attendees to her funeral anyway. So, instead of wasting money on flowers she’ll never see (her words) if you would like to donate instead, it would be very much appreciated and would’ve made her extremely happy. 

Our mum’s whole adult life had been dedicated to looking after and raising children. In honour of her memory we’d like to carry this on by raising enough money to send a child, who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, to school. Depending on the amount raised this will either be donated to SOS Children’s Villages or will go directly to sponsoring a child in Nigeria, that would really benefit from an education. 

We’ve chosen Nigeria for several reasons. Firstly, because our mum’s life was changed when her mum fostered 2 little boys, whose parents came from there, back in the 60s, and who’s family then became part of ours, and still are to this day. This means they are there to help get the money directly to the child. Mum hated travel, was petrified of flying, but often talked about one day making the trip to Nigeria to see her family who had moved back - she never did though, but of course never lost touch or interest in the country. 

Secondly, because approximately 10.5 million children don’t have the opportunity of an education in Nigeria. Around 11 million under 14s are forced to work in hazardous conditions. Money donated could change a child’s life and leave a legacy my mum would be truly proud of. 

We understand, of course, that times are currently very tough for many in this pandemic, so there are absolutely no expectations.
