School Supplies for Sudan
Donation protected
School Supplies for Sudan is a campaign to provide necessary supplies for primary and secondary school children in rural communities in Khartoum, Sudan. This campaign has a goal of $4,000, all of which will cover the costs of purchasing school supplies in Sudan.
With a cost of $35 to fill one backpack, $4,000 will allow us to supply a minimum of 100 students with the following items:
- One backpack
- Two notebooks
- A pack of eight-ten pencils
- Five pens
- One sharpener
- One ruler
- One eraser
- One geometry set
- One pencil case
- One reusable water bottle
Supplies will be purchased and distributed evenly among students at an all-girls school in North Khartoum, Sudan. Once available, a short film of this process will be created and shared on Instagram and Facebook (@SchoolSuppliesForSudan).
To protect the students and staff at this school, the name of this public school has been removed. As a result of ongoing political conflict, the Sudanese government continues to review and regulate social media posts to limit those from showcasing the lived realities of impoverished Sudanese communities. Although releasing the name of this school would place a danger to these communities, we have been able to share unidentifiable photos of the school on social media.
Donating school supplies is a meaningful way to make a difference. Your donation will directly help Sudanese students obtain the tools they need to learn throughout the school year. It will also help relieve some of the stress and financial burdens for families and teachers. A donation of $5, $20, $50, $100, or more will go a long way to support students access resources that will significantly improve their learning.
About the Organizer: My name is Suha Osman, and I am a Sudanese-Canadian traveling back home to Sudan in 2023. With the early part of my childhood spent in Sudan, I have grown up personally aware of the barriers to education. Students in rural communities are exposed to degrading infrastructure, a lack of teachers, limited school supplies, and other compounding health, political, and social factors, which leave Sudanese children vulnerable to dangers such as abuse, exposure to exploitation, and recruitment into militant groups. Through this initiative, I hope to encourage communities to come together and contribute to the improved learning of as many students as possible.
Students deserve access to quality education, and we have a responsibility to act. Please donate today.
If you would like to discuss, participate or contribute to this initiative in an alternative way, don't hesitate to contact me via email or message the School Supply for Sudan Facebook or Instagram page.
