School 12 DC Trip

Hi! Thank you for checking out our Go Fund Me! Here is a little about our school.  School 12 is an alternative learning program for the Troy City School District.  Within the ALP we have two programs, a self-contained special education program for grades 9 -12 and an alternative learning program for grades 8 -1 0.  We serve an inner city population consisting of students at risk of dropping out, drug use, pregnancy and poverty.  Most of our kids have never left the state let alone the City of Troy. The staff at School 12 want our students to experience something they never thought possible.  We are hoping to take our students to Washington DC for two day where the kids will see various monuments, museums including the new African American History Museum and the Holocaust Museum.  

We are attempting to raise this money to cover the costs of transportation, food and hotel accommodations for approximately 35 students.  This means more to us than we can attempt to explain and we are so appreciative of your donations. We know how powerful and important it is to push our students beyond their comfort zone so they can see that they can be successful. Our students don’t often have positive experiences, this is an opportunity of a lifetime and something they will never forget.  We believe empowering our students and showing them what life is like outside of Troy can inspire them and give them hope for their future. We hope to instill values such as empathy, self-confidence and the belief that they can be strong, independent people.
