Give Kids in Foster Care a Gift

My name is Leanne Conoley and I work with an amazing community support group called Leadership Under the Stars Inc. Leadership Under the Stars raises all money from donations and fundraisers. We do not get government support at all.

Throughout the year, we come across many children and young people who are living less fortunate lives than a lot of other Aussie kids.

Children who have been:

Children who are victims of domestic violence

Children whose parents are deceased

Children with learning and behavioural difficulties

Children whose job is to look after their disabled parents and or siblings

We want to give these children an opportunity to be "children". 5 Day Holiday Camp camp allows children to play outdoors, learn skills for life and leadership and gives them time to have fun and "be kids".

That is why we need your help. The camp is $1299 in total per child for 5 days and 4 nights and includes all of their meals, accommodation and activities. We have been able to subsidise a lot of the kids camp fees. However, we need a little more for kids in particular who need to come to camp for respite for them and their carers.

Our facilitators and leaders are caring and compassionate and share the same goal as I do.

We have 8 children who we would love to gift the opportunity to enjoy and relax, play and unwind after the hardship they have been through.

Throughout the years, I have seen kids come to camp and their lives changed forever. A little girl who was 12 years old couldn't speak, had been the victim of violence. By the end of camp, she was speaking and laughing. Something her foster parents had not seen her do yet.

Two brothers whose mother was dying of Liver Cancer visited us to get some respite. They 

laughed and enjoyed their one week of kid life. Unfortunately their mum passed soon after. But they came back to camp many times and were able to get away from the anxiety and stress of life at home without mum.

Please help us to give children this opportunity for a little bit of happiness. We know it will change their lives for the better and give them hope.
