Scogin Family Fundraiser

Hi - my name is Bridgitt Arledge. I am a friend of Christy Scogin. I've known Christy for a number of years when Riley was playing youth football as a 4th grader and she was team mom for our team, which continued through the 8th grade season. She did such a great job for the kids and for the parents, as her heart is truly in helping families. Over the years she has also been involved in local food banks, football events and helping disabled adults (she is still taking care of her disabled brother).

Last fall, Christy, her mom, her dad and her husband Harold were all hospitalized at the same time with complications from COVID-19. During this time, Riley (17 years old) had to grow up quickly. For 3 weeks he ran the household and even paid the mortgage payment from his own savings account. Christy and her mom recovered from COVID-19, however, her beloved husband Harold passed away... and then 6 days later her dad passed away. Devastating! Not only did Christy lose both her husband and her dad, Riley lost his dad and his grandpa, who was his best friend and confidant. Christy had to plan 2 funerals arrangements at the same time and it drained her finances.

Harold was self employed, so when he went into the hospital the income to support the family stopped. Christy is on disability and barely has money to keep them afloat. Riley is still working and gives his paycheck to his mom to help with the bills while still finishing his senior year of high school, taking classes through Running Start, and playing football. He had to plan his own homecoming night and his "senior night" for football, a celebration Christy and Harold had talked about and looked forward to for years but missed because they were in the hospital. Thankfully the Coach and his team made his senior night amazing (Christy is so very thankful!).

Life has been hard on many these past few years, but last fall was incredibly hard for Christy and Riley Scogin. Right now, Riley's car has engine problems and needs to be brought in for diagnostics and repair so they are sharing use of Christy's car. A few house repairs are needed. The funeral expenses drained the bank account and the bills are piling up.
