Scoliosis Surgery for SC Student, Sok Yi

Tax deductible
Meet Sok Yi, a remarkable 18-year-old student hailing from Sustainable Cambodia’s Kravanh Bright Future Center. Sok Yi's incredible journey has led her to become the President of her school's youth organization, showcasing her leadership and determination. Excelling in subjects like English, Math, Physics, and Chemistry, Sok Yi's academic prowess is truly exceptional. With aspirations of pursuing a career in the Information Technology field, she's resolute in shaping her own future. However, Sok Yi faces a significant challenge - a physical disability in the form of severe scoliosis, impacting both her physical well-being and emotional strength.

The Unseen Struggle:
Despite her remarkable achievements, Sok Yi's journey is marked by an invisible struggle. Her severe scoliosis has taken a toll on her physical health and self-esteem. One shoulder sits distinctly higher than the other, her posture bears a hunched stance, and a noticeable bulge on her back is a result of rib cage rotation. The visible curvature of her spine and differing leg lengths affect her gait, causing pain and muscular discomfort around her hip and lower back. While her lung function remains uncompromised at present, the risk of progression looms. Even more, Sok Yi harbors concerns about her inability to gain weight, a topic she's discussed openly.

A Hopeful Solution:
Sok Yi's determination shines through despite her challenges. Her ambition to excel, learn, and evolve remains unbreakable. It's disheartening to learn that she has never received medical attention for her condition due to financial constraints and cultural pressures. Coming from a humble background in rural Cambodia, Sok Yi's family lost her father several years ago, leaving her mother and elder sister to tend to the family farm. However, a ray of hope emerged when Sok Yi received approval from Shriner's Hospital in Honolulu for a life-transforming treatment. This opportunity, spanning about eight months, promises to alleviate her physical discomfort and empower her journey.

The Journey Ahead:
While Shriner's Hospital graciously covers Sok Yi's medical treatment, the associated expenses are substantial and beyond her family's means. The costs of travel, accommodations, nourishment, and other essentials during her stay in Honolulu are a formidable challenge. Her medical condition may also require her to have her surgery at the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento CA necessitating additional travel arrangements and expenses. Sok Yi's GoFundMe initiative seeks to rally support from compassionate individuals who believe in the power of transformation through unity.

Your Support Matters:
Every contribution to Sok Yi's cause is a step toward her brighter future. By coming together, we can provide her with the means to access the treatment she deserves and the chance to thrive. Join us in ensuring that Sok Yi's journey to recovery is filled with hope, dignity, and the assurance that her dreams are within reach. Your generosity can make a profound impact on the life of a young woman who refuses to let obstacles define her.

Let's empower Sok Yi and be a part of her inspiring story of resilience, determination, and transformation. Together, we can turn the pages of her life to reveal a brighter, healthier, and more promising future.
