SCOPE - DACA Advance Parole Fundraiser

Donation protected
Over the last decade, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has changed the lives of more than 830,000 people, giving them the right to work and study in the United States without fear of deportation. This summer, a handful of DACA recipients will have the chance to change their lives even further and set themselves up for a better future through a study abroad program at the University of Michigan, which would serve DACA recipients. Your donations could make a huge difference.

For many DACA recipients, legally exiting and entering the country is almost unattainable. DACA, while offering many protections to beneficiaries, does not provide a pathway to citizenship or the ability to travel freely.

To allow individuals to travel safely outside the US, the Student Community of Progressive Empowerment (SCOPE) has co-created a class in partnership with a faculty member at the University of Michigan. This class will allow DACA recipients to travel to Toronto, Ontario (Canada) for academic purposes through a process called “Advance Parole.” Our goal is to make it possible for all of the members of our class to travel without cost.

Advance Parole is a travel document granted by USCIS to allow DACA recipients to travel outside the United States. It costs $575 per individual to file for Advance Parole, creating substantial economic barriers for applicants, and very few resources exist to help DACA recipients cover this cost. Advance Parole is highly beneficial for DACA recipients because, in some cases, having a documented legal entry point into the US through Advance Parole can make future immigration options easier to attain.

We request your support in helping DACA recipients enrolled in the course cover their Advance Parole application fees. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will directly support individuals in this course. We are very excited to get this trip underway, but we urgently need your help to make this happen.

We thank you for supporting us and continuing the fight for undocumented students.
