Scott & Julie's Fight Against Cancer

"My wife Julie was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer in mid-September after going into the ER with abdominal pain. This cancer is a rare form of cancer because of it not being focused on a single organ in the body. This also means that it’s much more difficult to treat. Peritoneal cancer is one that is identified as not curable…with current practices and treatments anyways. It is however treatable which means that they, through Chemo-therapy, can knock it down and prolong her life. After 4 of the 6 chemo-therapies they performed a scan to reveal that current therapy has been somewhat ineffective in reducing the cancer nodules in her abdomen. Based on that, the doctors felt that they could not go forward in doing any kind of surgery and that they recommend completing the remaining 2 chemo-therapies and do another scan. Recently Julie got chemo-therapy #5. She ended up having a reaction to the platinum based drug part-way through the therapy and they had to stop it. We are looking into second opinions in Milwaukee, Minnesota, or possibly San Diego. The last one in San Diego is a leading research center and is very expensive. Initial consultations can be $5,000 out of pocket." - Scott
