Scott Dubis, American Contractor Killed in Syria
Many of you already know of the devastating loss of Scott Dubis, a beloved friend to many and the loving husband of Shay Dubis. Scott (aka Dubis and Scotty) was the American killed in the drone air strike in Syria on March 23. We all saw it on the news and could not fathom how this could hit so close to home for those of us who know Scott and Shay.
Scott arrived at Dover Air Force Base on Tuesday, March 28th where he was received by the family through a Dignified Transfer Ceremony. He will journey home in the coming days to Summerville, South Carolina, his final resting place. Words cannot express how heartbroken Shay and his family and friends are. Help us lift her up and support her now and in the weeks and months to come.
Scott was away doing the work he loved so much, while Shay kept the home fires burning. Scott and Shay were so in love and planning the next chapter in their lives together. They had dreams. Now interrupted in the worst way. He will live on in her memory and by all that loved him. Scott touched so many lives. To know Scott was to love Scott. He viewed life with the same zeal as a boy on Christmas morning. He had a heart of gold and a spirit that touched lives in such a positive way. You can read the social medial posts from those who lived and worked with him and quickly understand how loved he was. Never mad, always smiling and excited about anything you had to say or were doing. His positive attitude and genuine love for others was infectious. Scott loved his country and made us proud. He will be deeply missed. He touched the lives of so many and it’s our turn to give back to them in the only way many of us can.
So many have reached out asking "what can I do?", from locals to individuals around the world, many in Iraq and Afghanistan. I set this up so everyone who wants to do something can. Shay will need all the love and support she can get in the weeks and months to come. We as a 'family' to her and Scott can ease any concerns and make things as easy as possible during this time. For those who want to help but are not sure how or are too far away, we can channel our collective energy as we all grieve for our friend at this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Saturday April 8, 2023 from 10 am to 12 noon at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home Chapel.
