Scott Hailey’s Fight to Survive

Hello, my name is Sierra and I am the daughter of Scott Hailey. I am creating this gofundme to help support my family’s medical costs as we navigate this difficult time.

On Friday September 8th my brother and I’s father, Scott Hailey, was in a horrible motorcycle accident in Mexico which resulted in serious injury. The hospital conditions he was in down in Mexico were extremely poor and if he were to stay there he surely would have died. In order to save his life, our family miraculously managed to pay for a med flight that evacuated him from Mexico and into Richmond, Virginia, costing my brother over $40,000 out of pocket.

Now that he has made the journey to VCU-MCV, we have begun to get a better idea of his condition and start the process of healing. At this time, our father has severe brain trauma including multiple brain bleeds and a midline shift. He also has had a tube placed to drain blood from his lungs, as well as, surgery to repair and drain bleeding in his intestines. In addition to this, he has multiple blood clots in his lungs and is battling an unidentified lung infection that is eating a hole in his lungs. He has been intubated and sedated since the night of the accident and we are far from knowing the full extent of his injuries.

With this all being said, we are looking at a very long stay in the ICU alone and then longer still once he is able to be moved to a normal hospital room. We have no idea what his needs will be once he heals from these injuries, but we do know his care needs will be extensive. Unfortunately, our dad has no health insurance and the bills we are and will be facing will be massive. Any help that our family is able to receive is greatly appreciated and will go directly into supporting his continued care.
