Scott was larger than life. His gregarious presence could shift the energy in any room, and on the 4th of July, his absence shifted the energy of the entire town.
His legacy of kindness, lust for adventure, and appetite for life will live on in Skagway and across the world in the hearts and memories of those that knew him best. Though, we'll never be able to make sense of such a loss, it does seem fitting that a man with a soul brighter than ANY fireworks, should leave us on the 4th of July. Scott was a hearty laugh, a decadent meal, and a round of shots. He was a strong hug, a bright smile, and deliciously sarcastic banter.
Many of you are asking what you can do to help. This memorial fund will serve as a way to help with costs. After medical expenses are paid, any additional money will go to one of Scott's favorite places, Earth Lodge in Guatemala. (Most of us remember countless stories of his good times here.) Like most places in tourism, they are also suffering in this crazy pandemic and we know that he would want to help them out.
So give a little, or a lot. Either of those would have made Scott happy.
