Scott Wallace Cancer Fund

Scott Wallace - beloved father, husband, educator and community leader - has been diagnosed with stage 2 cancer. We have established a GoFundMe and Meal Train as two ways to help this amazing family as they face this battle.

On November 20, 2020, Scott underwent a colonoscopy to try to find the source of some medical issues he was having. He awoke to wife Sophie and the doctor discussing a cancerous mass discovered during the procedure. Further testing and imaging determined the cancer to be stage 2 adenocarcinoma of the rectum.

Of course, they were heartbroken in the moment, but immediately activated their support network of friends, family, and colleagues. While every step of the way involves figuring out the new normal for the Wallaces, they have been overwhelmed by the amazing outpouring of support through prayer, cards, texts, and phone calls.

It is hard to imagine that just one year ago Sophie suffered a heart attack at the age of 32, and that Scott is currently in his first year of leading a school as a principal during a global pandemic - all of this while raising their amazing kiddos, who are seven and two. So many people have asked for updates and ways they can help the Wallaces, that together we decided on two essential and immediate paths: the first is this fundraiser to support the realistic financial needs that create a crisis for so many who find themselves with cancer, especially a cancer such as Scott’s requiring treatment for a minimum of six months; and the second is a meal train, because nourishing meals can make such a difference in challenging times. All of this, of course, is made more complicated due to procedures and access that can be slowed due to COVID-19.

The plan put forth by Scott’s medical team is to immediately begin a combination of chemotherapy and radiation in order to shrink the mass and stop any further spread of the cancer. This will be followed by a surgery to remove the mass and likely more “cleanup” chemotherapy.  The Wallaces are people of faith, and they are declaring Isaiah 54:17 over this battle. They are believing for a complete healing of Scott and that he be restored to full health!

In under 30 days, medical costs have already ballooned for the Wallace family, to the tune of over $7500 for hospital bills alone. On January 1, 2021 their deductible and maximum out of pocket limits will reset and they’ll start from scratch once again. This GoFundMe will help to pay the upcoming and unavoidable medical bills that are necessary for Scott to get the care he needs. Funds raised will go primarily toward Scott’s medical costs - scans, radiation treatments, chemotherapy medication, doctor fees, and hospital visits. When this kind of crisis occurs, families also incur many unexpected costs associated with travel to and from appointments, as well as unanticipated at-home needs. It is the unfortunate reality of a cancer diagnosis, and one that we believe those who love the Wallaces can help to mitigate.

The Wallaces are so grateful to those who have asked how you can support them. Firstly, keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Secondly, please consider donating to the cost of Scott's care. If you would prefer (or additionally like) to give the gift of food, a Meal Train has been set up to meet their physical needs in the moment (https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/e5q5ge). Using this link you can sign up to bring a meal for the family while Scott undergoes treatment, or you can deliver a restaurant gift card that can be used to bring food home so the family does not have to cook every night.

Scott’s doctors are optimistic that this is both treatable and curable. The Wallaces also know that anything is possible with faith! Thank you for considering supporting them in sharing the load of this journey!
