Scott Williams Post-Multivisceral Transplant Care
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,
I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a sincere plea for support for Scott Williams and his family. Scott, along with his loving wife Amber and their five beautiful children Kaitlyn, Quentin, Lainey, Drew, and Colin, as well as his parents, Gretchen and Tom, sister Kelly and nephew Tyler Dixon, have faced immense challenges in recent years. Now, they are embarking on a daunting journey towards Scott's recovery after undergoing a life-saving multivisceral transplant.
In January of this year, Scott received the devastating news that without a multivisceral transplant (involving the liver, small intestine, pancreas, and connecting vessels), his life expectancy would be limited to just a couple of years. Miraculously, his case was accepted, and on June 21st, 2023, Scott received the call they had been eagerly waiting for—a donor match was available. If you know anything about the organ recipient waitlist, you'd know Scott was very critical to be so far up the list that within 2 weeks of acceptance, a donor match was found and his surgery was scheduled. Filled with worries but ultimately hope and courage, Scott underwent this highly rare and complex surgery at Indiana University on June 22nd.
Initially, the surgery seemed successful, but Scott encountered complications that prevented the medical team from taking him off the ventilator and medically induced coma for nearly two weeks. This unexpected turn of events has been incredibly difficult for Scott's family, who had hoped for a smoother post-surgery recovery. While the transplanted organs were initially functioning beautifully, Scott has developed multiple complications, including an ongoing eColi infection and later organ dysfunctions, leading to many additional surgeries and the reapplication of the ventilator on July 8th, 2023. His medical team expects many more surgeries in the coming days to clear infection and get him more stable. His ICU stay is expected to be much longer than they initially thought.
Amber, Scott's devoted wife, along with his mother Gretchen and sister Kelly, are devastated but unwavering in their hope for Scott's recovery. They need all the prayers and support they can get to help Scott fight off infections, regain his strength, and get his organs back to working properly.
The weight of this situation, however, extends beyond emotional strains. Scott's family is facing a tremendous financial burden, with Scott unable to work for the foreseeable future, and Amber shouldering the responsibilities of having to already return to work, care for their children, and be there for her husband during a time he needs it the most.
The medical bills alone have become an overwhelming burden, compounded by the loss of Scott's income and the additional expenses for travel and sustenance. The road ahead will be long and challenging, with Scott likely facing mounting medical bills for the rest of his life. At this moment, what Scott's family needs most is financial support. By alleviating some of the financial stress, we can allow his wife Amber to focus on her husband and family without worrying about the basic necessities that we often take for granted, such as meals and hospital parking costs. It adds up, and it's adding up quickly.
Scott's mother Gretchen, who also cares for Scott's father Tom, living with Alzheimer’s, two hours away in Louisville, deserves relief from the constant worry about her son's well-being and the financial strain it places on her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Together, we can rally behind the Williams family, providing them with the support they need during this challenging time.
Scott was like a brother to me growing up because of my friendship with his sister Kelly. The daily visits to each other’s houses naturally created a bond where her family is my family. I have witnessed firsthand the bond that ties the Williams family together. They are a remarkable unit, and their resilience is an inspiration to us all.
Having known the Williams family since my kindergarten years, I can vouch for their humility and unwavering spirit. They are not ones to ask for help, but their need is now undeniable. In times of adversity, they would be the first to extend a helping hand, and now it is our turn to show our support. Scott, with his caring nature, would undoubtedly be relieved to know that we are surrounding his family with love and assistance. I can say with absolute certainty, from the bottom of his heart, he thanks you.
Let us come together as a community to ensure that Scott Williams and his family receive the support they need. Your donation will make a meaningful difference, lightening the burden they carry and allowing them to focus on what truly matters—their collective journey to healing and well-being for Scott and themselves.
All funds donated will go to Scott’s immediate medical needs, household bills as well as meals and expenses for his family during his long hospital stay so they can be with him and help nurture and encourage him back to health. Because nobody can care for Scott like family can.
If you’d like to get a small donation to the Williams family quickly to help with travel, parking, meals etc you can also donate to Scott’s wife Ambers Venmo @Amber-Welker or his mom Gretchen’s Cashapp which is $Mammaw211. Both accounts will help Amber with immediate needs over the coming days.
Please donate today and share this campaign with others who may wish to help.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
With heartfelt gratitude,
