Scott DeWolf's Covid Lung Transplant Assistance

Donation protected
In early November 2020, Scott DeWolf contracted Covid-19 from an asymptomatic individual while serving his community as a prison guard. He spent the next week quarantining from his family and eventually drove himself to the hospital on November 18th because he continued to deteriorate. After a week in the hospital, he required ventilation as the virus attacked his lungs. He was intubated on November 27th and has been sedated ever since.

With laughter and a smile that is infectious, everyone who knows Scott loves him. He is an avid duck hunter, enjoys fishing, and helps coach his son in the local youth football league. Scott has the kindest heart and would do absolutely anything for anyone. Most importantly, he is an extremely dedicated and loving father to his children, Jenna (14) and Jake (12).

Scott’s family, including his wife Beth, have not seen him since early November when he initially quarantined. They are not allowed to visit him in the hospital, and their only connection is through FaceTime where she and the kids send love and affection to him as he sleeps.

After exhausting all other options, the DeWolf family has decided to move forward with transferring Scott to another hospital for a lung transplant which is likely his only chance for survival (the current plan is to fly him to UF Health Shands Hospital in Florida). To prepare him for the transfer, as of December 29th, Scott is on ECMO (a lifesaving technology that allows his blood to be oxygenated outside of his body). There are many variables that can impact these plans and each day it seems as though something else changes.

Regardless of when and where this journey takes them, Beth and the children will be with Scott to support him during this time. The family is fortunate to have health insurance but even that only goes so far when facing something as significant as this. There are countless financial obligations they have already incurred, and those obligations will only get worse.

Beth, Jenna, and Jake continue to find encouragement and strength in the outpouring of love and support from their family, friends, and community. They remain positive that Scott will soon be back where he belongs, at home.

Please consider supporting the DeWolf family by contributing financially, by sharing this with others and by continuing to send prayers and positive thoughts. Thank you for your consideration and time in reading Scott’s story.
