20+ yrs of agony-My rare hip issues
Hello all,
As some of you know, I've been battling some very rare and serious hip conditions for about the last 20 years, which during that time have gone from occasionally painful to today being completely debilitating and agonizingly painful. I've been fighting an uphill battle to get disability benefits for almost two years, but I'm very unlikely to get them due to several factors including my age, education and a lack of understanding of my medical problems.
This is incredibly humbling and difficult to write, but I've been unable to work for several years, and today this former athlete and avid outdoorsman spends 20+ hours every day stuck in bed, struggling to make it from one day to the next, forced to take over 50 pills every day to try to treat my constant, agonizing pain and many other issues.
I've completely used up all of my available sources of money and been forced to move in with my parents and rely on them for day-to-day support for several years. However, I've reached a critical point where I need about a half dozen of what are likely to be a lifetime of major surgeries and other medical procedures to my hips, back, shoulders and more (my hips are by far the worst of the problems in a long list). While insurance will hopefully cover the majority of my bills, there's at least $20,000 in expenses I'll have to pay out of pocket within the next year, starting with finding a place to live near one of the very few hip surgeons with the training to handle a highly complex case like mine. Somehow it will also need to be affordable, yet located somewhere near one the large cities where one of these few doctors practices (Boston or NYC). It also can't have stairs, and needs to be as close as possible to my children, who live southwest of Boston, so they can still see me during the long periods I'm unable to travel very far.
I've run out of other options, so I'm hoping I can use this site to help raise the money I need. It would mean so much to me and my children for me to be able to get the medical treatments I so badly need. Thank you so very much in advance for any help you can provide, and I wish the very best to you and your families.
P.S. That's me on the left in the photo with my 8 year old clone, looking and acting probably a lot like I did at his age!
