Take time to read this story as The Russells need your help! Please pray for Scotty and his family and ask God how you can financially contribute to the costs that are steadily growing. This GOFUND ME page has been created by Christian friends who want to establish a world-wide effort to combine our resources to help this family as they rely on God for the provision. They will need an adaptive vehicle and wheelchair for travel, financial support to pay medical bills and the list can go on and on. Go to https://www.facebook.com/scott.russell.9480 and read his mother’s page, Roxanne Russell, to understand this young man’s story since 8/1/23. She has been diligent to keep us updated so we are aware of specific prayer requests.
On August 1st the Russells’ lives were drastically changed when their 16-year-old son was involved in a vehicle accident. Scotty arrived at University Arkansas Medical Center barely hanging on to the breath of life as he bled internally from injuries sustained in the accident. However, by the GRACE of God, Scotty has survived, now through 12 surgeries, to correct, replace and/or repair all the broken pieces of his precious body involving his brain, neck, chest/ribs, stomach, spleen, left humerus, both femurs, left tibia and the list goes on and on . . . ....
Based on his injuries, surgeries had to be staggered over time to allow his body to tolerate and undergo the repair and surgery. He spent over 5 ½ weeks in the ICU at UAMS and then was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital where he remains today trying to build strength and rehabilitate. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that complicates his recovery process. When providers did not give much hope, his family RELIED on Christ, as this is where their strength comes from. Though they do pray for full restoration and believe that GOD is in control, we all understand that this will be a long road with full time care. God has also shown them since day one that HE is in complete control of this situation. The Bible in the picture below was found next to Scotty when EMS arrived, well protected and unblemished despite all the massive debris around. It is just another miracle how GOD protected HIS HOLY WORD and Scotty.
Before Scotty’s accident, he was a busy teenage boy full of non-stop energy playing basketball for his school and baseball for the community. Starting at 4 years old, he aspired to be a pilot. So, when he turned 12, he became involved in Civil Air Patrol and enjoyed his O-flights and encampment most of all. Around age 14 he began talking about being a missionary to Cairo, Egypt as God had placed this on Scotty’s heart. He would go back and forth between the two options as well as being a missionary pilot. He would often ask his parents how he would know for sure which path God wanted him to do. They would encourage by saying, “You have plenty of time. You will know when it’s time.” He would often come to them with tears in his eyes and a humble heart asking why God would call him? They gave him counsel that the kind of person God wants to use is an imperfect humble person who would have the heart to reach all people. In April of 2023, he went on a mission trip to Philadelphia that impacted his heart and mind forever. Scotty had never seen a side of our country that went to this level. The mission was in the setting of homeless people using needles, drugs, and people just in such bad conditions on the street. When he came home from this mission trip, he told both his parents that he felt called to preach in Philadelphia as his tears ran down his face. Since that trip, he had never wavered in that leading. We believe that if God already spoke his plan that He will restore Scotty to be used in Philadelphia, though the timing may be longer than we would like to see. A cool little nugget that his father realized was that Cairo Egypt was the original Philadelphia, Ancient Philadelphia. We believe God has been working in Scotty’s life to lead him into His will. We acknowledge that God knows our lives before we are conceived as he states in “Jeremiah 1:5: Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nation”.
The Russells are beyond thankful that God chose them to allow them to keep their son as they are no more worthy than others who have lost children. But they believe and pray that God could get the most glory from his story with him alive than bringing him to his forever home so soon. Please consider contributing to this effort and we appreciate your support.
