Scotty Zyra's Americorps Trip To Moab, UT
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Scotty Zyra and I’m 19 years old and a sophomore at SUNY Geneseo majoring in social-medicine and public health.
Over this past semester, I found myself searching for a way where I would be able to help our planet this summer while being able to explore some of the beautiful-ness of the US.
So, I applied and interviewed for the Utah AmeriCorps UHEAN (Utah Higher Education AmeriCorps Network) and was accepted! (my mom is worried, my dad and brother, Jack are psyched)
This summer I'm going to take a break from baseball and will be helping to build safer, stronger, healthier, and united communities across the state. The members in the program support schools, hospitals, and organizations that see service as a solution to local and national challenges and create powerful member experiences that result in lifelong civic engagement.
I can’t wait to start this journey, but I know it’s a lot. It’s a lot of worry and a lot of the unknown, which is both exciting and scary, but I’m ready.
I start training June 1st and won’t be back home until the end of August. I promise to share pictures and bring this experience and memory back with me. I plan to start a daily vlog and will post daily pictures on social media too. (mom’s only demand)
Money raised will go toward: my drive from Spencerport (to and from] to Moab, housing, food, gear and equipment.
And in truth, these funds will go much further than the items I mention above. I will learn a lot, work a lot and sweat--a lot.
As well, it will help my desire to pay forward & help others.
Thank you very much,
Love,
Scotty Zyra
