Scrub Hub Bristol UK
Donation protected
Due to COVID-19 there is a national shortage of scrubs for the medical profession.
My name is Amanda George and I own the gift shop We Make Bristol in Westbury on Trym. A week after having to temporarily close my shop I heard about this national shortage and quickly set up a Scrub Hub to cover Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucester.
I am registered in the scrubhub.org.uk directory and have set up this fundraising campaign so that I can raise the money needed to buy the fabric, thread and drawstring to make these scrubs for the NHS staff and keyworkers in and around Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucester.
I have no affiliation to the NHS, I just want to help.
The Team
I have a team of around 160 volunteers and this group is made up of people who can cut fabric, sew, collect and deliver. None of us are benefiting financially in any way and are all volunteering our time and what resources we can for free.
How I am using the money donated
It costs roughly £10 to make just one pair of scrubs.
I am purchasing fabric, thread and drawstring from UK wholesalers so that I can buy at the most cost effective prices. I am paying for everything using my own personal credit card and then reimburing myself through this fund.
I am keeping detailed records of all expenditure and these are available upon request should anyone wish to verify that I am using this money responsibly
Social Distancing
It is vitally important that we all maintain social distancing thrughout this process, so we are operating a 100% safe no contact system to ensure the safety of everyone invloved in this campaign.
Left Over Funds
It has been reported that there is an expectation that many health workers may suffer from mental health issues during and after this crisis, including PTSD, so any leftover funds at the end of this campaign will be donated to NHS Practitioner Health, who are an organisation dedicated to supporting the unique needs of health care professionals and their mental health. More information on NHS Practitioner Health can be found by visiting their website Click here
UPDATE 18 APRIL 2020
We have now received orders for just under 900 sets of scrubs with many more requests coming in daily. The orders are from NHS hospital workers, GP surgeries, prisons, care homes and mental health institutions.
In addition to the team of volunteers helping me I have had offers of help from companies in and around Bristol.
Hobbs Repro have plotted and printed all the sewing patterns that we needed free of charge
Mockingbird Press have printed all of the pattern instructions and information documents we needed free of charge
Jokoto Tailoring have been bulk cutting fabric for us free of charge and we have just received and accepted offers of help with bulk cutting from Mulberry and Monmark who are both also providing us with this service free of charge.
Your help now would be invaluable to
Save lives - Help the NHS - Protect the NHS
Thank you
Amanda George
