During Labor Day weekend, our beloved Maurice and a group of friends traveled from California to Rosarito, Mexico. On the night of September 2, 2022, an unimaginable & unthinkable tragedy occurred at Papas and Beer restaurant in Rosarito Beach, Mexico.

Sometime after 11 pm that night, Maurice’s friends witnessed him collapse abruptly inside the restaurant’s bar area. They helped him up and sat him at the bartop; during this time he was unresponsive. Friends screamed for help from staff; however, staff did not respond to any requests for help and emergency medical aid. After some time, the staff of Papas and Beer inhumanely and callously removed Maurice from the premises and harshly placed him in the street alley adjacent to the restaurant. Shortly after this terrible act took place, paramedics arrived at the scene. The paramedics pronounced him dead without any attempts to resuscitate him. No police investigation took place that night.

Additional information has now surfaced, leading his family to believe there may have been foul play involved & Maurice was not provided proper medical attention.

Maurice was only 29 years old, full of life and laughter. He was a super compassionate, giving & loving individual. Maurice was born and raised in Long Beach, CA & graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. After graduation, Maurice attended San Jose State University and obtained a Bachelor of Art in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Energy Policy and Green Building. Maurice was an active and devoted member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. He then went on to become a proud employee of the San Jose Water Company.

Maurice was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and beloved colleague. As his loved ones, it is essential to seek answers surrounding the circumstances of Maurice’s death. Maurice was extremely loved by so many family & friends, and we have to keep his legacy alive by holding anyone who may have been involved accountable.

This fund will be used by his family to cover all necessary arrangements and legal fees to ensure that this never happens to anyone again. By donating to this fund, you will help his family seek justice & demonstrate just how much Maurice’s life meant to everyone that had the privilege of knowing him.

Additionally, Maurice's family is seeking video footage or photos from September 2nd, 2022 at Papas & Beer in Rosarito, Mexico between the hours of 9:30 pm and 2:00 am, when the incident occurred.
