SD Black Queer Housing is a mutual aid fund for Black queers in immediate need of safe housing.  We are a collective based out of San Diego, CA.  As a group of Black, queer folx currently experiencing or on the brink of homelessness, we recognize the need for an emergency housing resource and are committed to assisting black queers in the greater San Diego area. This fund is to help house Black residents who are experiencing homelessness or about to become homeless.  We are actively working toward getting emergency housing for 4 Black queers who need help urgently.

Many black people have a difficult time finding and maintaining housing due to redlining, racial discrimination, and gentrification. Last year, HUD (Housing and Urban Development) reported to Congress, that although Black people only make up 13% of the general population, they represent about 40% of the homeless population nationally. In San Diego, the black homeless population is 5X greater than the number of black people in the county. The disparity is evident and the need is obvious.

Black people HAVE BEEN facing housing insecurity, but in these particularly trying times, it is so important to provide safe spaces for black people to lay their heads. We believe everyone has the right to safe housing, and we know that with  community collaboration we can take small steps towards bridging the gap. Our ultimate vision is to safely house as many black queers as possible by buying a home to provide transitional shelter. Do your part in ensuring that black bodies are safe and please donate now!
