Love Offering for Faith Cano Celebration of Life

25 years ago, Faith was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker syndrome just after birth. Young scared parents, we met Dr. Bruce Storrs, who, when I asked frankly, “what will be wrong with our daughter?” He replied, “parents decide who their children become. Teach them to walk if you want them to walk. It may look different, but that has nothing to do with a handicap. Everyone is unique”. Still scared and heartbroken with what we had to face, Monsignor Bason (the priest that married us) called to make sure we still loved each other a year after marriage. I don’t think he was ready for my emotional response. I told him about Faith, her surgery, and all my fears. He calmly listened and replied, “You have been given a gift; God trusts you to teach your daughter to know Him, love Him, and serve Him. He asks nothing more of you, for she is His. You get to borrow her, but ultimately, she belongs to Him. These two encounters drove me. Faith, at a month old, had therapy almost every day. We did our best to teach her to know, love, and serve God. 25 years ago, when I spoke to God, it was raw and honest. I prayed things like, “ok, I’ll do this, but I need her happy and full of love,” or “this doesn’t seem fair, so can you show me this is worth it in ways of love or happiness” I’d say those conversations/prayers were answered Faith Louise Cano lived a full life of love and happiness. Her spirit filled rooms, and her smile brightened the world. I am hurting in unimaginable ways. I am also comforted that she will never be poked again and that her tiny body is whole. All I’ve ever wanted was for her to be whole. On October 10th (10/04) at 10:04, that body became whole. She will spend eternity in the arms of the One who created her.
Thank you for the love and support you’ve shown us!
