Fire Destroys Family Home

In the early morning hours of Monday, April 18, 2022 a fast moving fire destroyed the home of a beloved couple in Thomasville, North Carolina.

 

Daniel and Helena Castillo heard loud, unfamiliar sounds coming from outside their bedroom. At first concluding an intruder was in their home, they promptly called 911. The reality of what was taking place become evident when smoke started to fill their bedroom.

 

Rushing out with the clothes on their back and an emergency bag they kept close by, the couple traversed the intense heat and smoke of the fire blazing in the main part of the house.

 

As Daniel was leading the way for the couple to escape the flames, his dear wife Helena fell near the exit door. She was rapidly overcome with the smoke, slipping in and out of consciousness. Helena suffered severe burns throughout her body and has a long recovery ahead. Without the heroic efforts of Thomasville Police Officers, first on the scene, this story would have a far more tragic ending.

The Castillo’s have voluntarily devoted most of their lives to serve Spanish communities in Thomasville, NC, Leominster, MA and Lawrence, MA. Their community outreach efforts have assisted numerous families throughout the years.
