SDSU Medical Outreach Internship - Peru

Hi everyone!

My name is Lilly Rozier and I am a senior at San Diego State University. The entirety of my belief system is rooted in the fact that since I was little I have been surrounded with complete security, while others have not. I have never had to wonder where my next meal is coming from, if the water I’m drinking is safe, or most importantly if I was going to have access to necessary medical attention if my family or I happen to need it. Ultimately, I did nothing to earn the life that I was given at birth, which is why I am passionate about using my blessings to help those who are less fortunate than I.

This year I was given the opportunity to serve on the executive board of the Volunteers Around the World Global Health Alliances chapter at San Diego State University. Over the past few months, we have been working together to organize a medical outreach program with the goal of improving access to quality healthcare in an underprivileged community. On June 14th, 2022, 24 fellow SDSU students and I will be traveling to Peru for 14th days to work alongside local physicians in mobile medical clinics where we will conduct public health surveys, take vitals, work in pharmaceuticals, teach health education classes, and aid in patient intake.

This trip gives me the opportunity to use my passion for medicine to make a difference in the lives of those who are in need. The cost of this program includes airfare, medication, and other supplies necessary to ensure the proper functioning of our mobile medical clinics. As a college senior with student loans piling up, I am unfortunately unable to fund this program entirely on my own so I have decided to turn to my community for help.
