Update: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! The support for Ira has been overwhelming and wonderful. I changed the goal amount because there was some confusion about the goal being hit and the campaign ending. I know that Ira's story is just now reaching some people. And a quick update- Ira is still in the NICU and the timeline is unknown at this time. They are trying a lot of different medications to get his levels in the normal range and he had a few procedures and surgeries with more to come. Once they can get his levels to stay consistent, they will start with the dialysis and he will be closer to coming home and receiving treatment there. We cannot thank you all enough!!
Hi everyone! This is my new nephew, Ira Edison Carroll. He is a tough little dude and has been through a lot in his first week of life. My sister Caitlyn and my brother-in-law Tommy found out a couple of months before he was born that there were issues with her amniotic fluid and Ira wasn't developing like he should. There were major concerns for his lung and kidney development. There was a lot of testing and monitoring, trying to get him as close as they could to his due date. He came a little bit early but to everyone's relief, he came out screaming! He was breathing on his own! There has been a lot more testing, labs and an extended NICU stay and the end result has been that Ira has kidney failure. Ira has been at Children's Hospital since he was born and has been under the care of a great team of doctors. It was decided the best treatment for him will be long-term dialysis to help his kidneys do what they need to do and further down the road will be a transplant.
Ira will be in the NICU for at least a couple more weeks so they can decide the best plan for him. There is a lot of unknown for his future treatment. Caitlyn and Tommy are taking everything one day at a time and they could use your help! There will be a lot of medical bills coming, hotel stays, driving back and forth between taking care of Vilas and Ira and there is still a lot to decide about Ira's future care. I know they have really appreciated all of the love and prayers sent their way. Please consider donating and please share with others. Thank you!!!
