SEA OF GREEN--the film
Donation protected
My name is Michael Bronfenbrenner and I am a documentary filmmaker. I have begun production on a new film, SEA OF GREEN, which tells the story of the Newfield high school boys basketball program in upstate New York. This small town lives, eats and breathes basketball, --the community support for the teams and the school is beyond remarkable.
The title, -- SEA OF GREEN--, refers to the Newfield School school colors, which fill high school gyms at both home and away games. The film will tell the story of how the legacy began, how it was carried through the years, the huge disappointment of not being able to go to the State Playoff because of Covid, and how that motivation, along with the foundation that had already been established, led to an eventual crowning victory.
This is not just the story of a team,-- it is the story of a community, of coaches, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, fans and families, that made this all happen.
I have already begun production on the film, have been to Newfield twice and have completed over 20 interviews.
Here is what still needs to be done:
a) Make three more trips to Newfield and other locations to film more interviews--players, coaches, staff, fans, families, opposing players and coaches etc.
b) Research, collect and organize videos, photos, newspaper articles etc.
c) Post Production: log all shot footage, do video editing (this is the step that requires extensive time), scriptwriting, music selection, narration recording, graphic design and creation, and then the final edit in prep for the premiere.
The film is scheduled to be completed in late April of 2024, with the premiere slated for May in Newfield.
SEA OF GREEN will be part of my film series of High School Sports Stories. The first one in the series, JUST PLOWBOYS, has been completed and has already won several film festival awards including Best Documentary Film at the Tennessee International Film Festival.
Here is the link to the Facebook page for SEA OF GREEN, where you can find project updates and information, along with interview clips of players, coaches, parents, and fans.
