Seattle Producers / Engineers Affected by Covid-19

Help our Music Recording Community During the Covid-19 Pandemic!

Hello, we are Rachel Field and Ed Brooks of Resonant Mastering in Seattle, WA.

The Seattle recording scene is blessed with a talented, lively, diverse and creative bunch of engineers and producers who have made the choice to embrace a profession of passion. We work with and for musicians to create quality recordings that capture their talents.

Engineers and producers play an important role in the making of recorded music. Engineers are responsible for the tones and fidelity of a recording, which often contribute to the way a song feels to the listener. Producers work with the artists to develop their songs and create an overall aesthetic for the recording. Both work to keep the session on track to meet deadlines and budgets. We are the behind-the-scenes people using technical and creative skills to make records ready for release.

We are gig-based workers; the majority of us are freelancers or sole proprietorships with no social safety net programs to draw from in times of need.

The last couple of decades have seen the advent of free music for consumers and a sharp decline in music purchases. This brought the music industry to a place where big record labels are not funding recording and production of albums as much as they used to. As a result, artists have less support from labels, and they have to rely solely on income from live performances, or an additional “day job”.

It has been so hard watching our musician friends and clients suffer from an instant loss of income.

Subsequently, it has been tough to hear of fellow engineers and studio owners losing booking after booking- and now looking at the imminent reality of not being able to pay rent, utilities, and grocery bills. All this while trying to figure out what it means for us and for our studio, Resonant Mastering. While the immediate effect of this outbreak has caused cancellations now and in the coming months, the long term effects of an economic slowdown will have a continued impact on recording studios and the people who work in them. This will be a long hard journey for our recording engineers.

It is so hard to ask for help. Our hope is that by creating a communal fundraiser we can bear that difficulty together, and keep as many in the community afloat as possible.

If you can give, we appreciate you! If you can't, we understand! Please share in case someone you know might be able to throw a few coins in the jar.

We can't wait to get back into the studios and keep doing what we love- making rad records.

Please help by donating and/or sharing this fundraiser! Thank you so much!

How Funds Will Be Distributed:

Grants will be awarded to applicants working as engineers in the Greater Seattle Area, who are financially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Amounts will be based on what is raised, and number of applicants. We'd love to put $1000 in the hands of out-of-work engineers. We expect about 40-50 folks to apply. The more the better! Funds will be divided evenly among qualifying applicants. If there is interest and funding for additional rounds of disbursements, we'll keep it going.

If you are a Seattle area Producer or Audio Engineer and would like to apply for this grant, please follow this link and answer all the questions as completely as you can:
