Second Emergency Liver Transplant

We have an update for Daniel. He has been put on the transplant list with a meld score of 39. Which they will hold that meld score until Tuesday October 31st. They are currently managing his pain the best they can, while he awaits surgery. Please keep prayers going during this difficult time. Thank you all for sharing and donating. It’s very appreciated.

Daniel Joucken is 37 yrs old and was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis and Primary Sclerosing cholangitis in his early twenties. He is a very motivated individual that used to work two jobs and pursue his passion in body building. Due to his healthy lifestyle and outlook on life, this was very hard news. Every day his body fights against his true self.

This disease caused him to not be able to maintain weight, enjoy food, and he was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. In 2019 he had to have an emergency liver transplant. While one disease attacks the liver, the other attacks his bile ducts. With the liver being attacked, Toxins are built up and they damaged the artery that they had to connect the liver to. So this liver is not getting enough blood flow. On October 11th he went to the hospital to close a shunt his body created to move blood flow away from the liver and to the heart since his liver was in cirrhosis. This is dangerous and can cause acute liver damage. So they went in via interventional radiology to close the shunts and send it back to the liver for the toxins to be filtered out. Unfortunately during his stay in the hospital he got chicken pox and a blood infection called klebsiella. Due to the stress of the procedure, this weakened the immune system and infections his meld score went from 23 to 40 making him high risk and in need of a life saving liver transplant.

Any donations will help with his hospital expenses, and after care expenses. Including a care giver for 3 months, and any other costs that might come up during this time.
