Second Life's emergency response in Valencia
Donation protected
My name is Cooper Tweedie, head of HR & Strategy at Second Life. We are an Environmental NGO, headquartered in Ravensburg, Germany (VR 722746) but operating in Valencia and the Canary Islands in Spain. Our method involves deploying drones to create surveys of environmental plastic waste in coastal environments.
In the wake of the recent flash flooding in Valencia, we have decided to mobilize our whole international team to have an emergency response - using our drone teams to help local municipal authorities in assessing damage, assessing environmental impact, and helping to identify (missing) people.
We will conduct scans along beaches and damaged urban and suburban areas, as well as key infrastructural locations and population centers, using drones to create arial surveys which would otherwise require a helicopter. We feel that our methods will be incredibly valuable in supporting the national and local response, by providing highly mobile, highly accurate and close-up aerial views in the effected disaster areas.
We will keep the team onsite for 4 weeks, with members of the team travelling onsite by next week via car, plane, train or sailboat. Some of our challenges include: closure of the main rail lines, damage to accommodation, and loss of contact with members of our team in Valencia.
In order for us to pull of this task, we need emergency funding:
- EUR 750 - to get the entire team onsite in Valencia
- EUR 750 - emergency housing costs (near) Valencia
- EUR 200 - 6 spare drone batteries (DJI Mini 2/4)
We can drastically increase our team's ability to respond with an additional one or two of the following drones in our fleet:
- EUR 1,120 DJI MINI 4 (included within target)
- EUR 400 DJI MINI 2 (optional)
Any funding which exceeds our target (EUR 2,820) will contribute to buying clothes, food, and special equipment, such as rain jackets, flashlights, blankets.
