As a dedicated parent, my number one priority is ensuring my child’s safety, stability, and well-being. Unfortunately, I am now facing a devastating legal challenge: appealing parental responsibility in [Florida] against a convicted child abuser with a documented history of domestic violence. Why This Legal Fight Matters

Under Florida law (Fla. Stat. § 61.13), the court determines parental responsibility based on the child’s best interests. However, parental rights are not automatically terminated—even when domestic violence or abuse is involved. Florida courts may still award shared parental responsibility unless it is proven, through legal proceedings, that such an arrangement would be detrimental to the child (Fla. Stat. § 39.806).

Additionally, Fla. Stat. § 39.0139—commonly known as the “Keeping Children Safe Act”—provides that a court must consider the safety and well-being of the child first, particularly when there is evidence of abuse or violence. I strongly believe that granting this person any parental rights would put my child at severe risk.
