Security Cameras for the 2828 Cafe Gulargambone

Donation protected
In light of recent vandalism, it would be a great idea to purchase and install security cameras at the two eight two eight cafe.
This initiative, for our Community run cafe will definitely help improve the safety and security of our beloved town.
Please donate, or ask your friends and community members to support this effort, so that we can keep our community safer, and keep giving employment opportunities to 3 school age children, 2 part time women, and retain our awesome volunteer.
Thank you!
Funds will also cover replacement of children’s play equipment and solar lights damaged buy trespassers.

Our Story
Welcome to Two Eight Two Eight!
To understand what Two Eight Two Eight is now, we need to first explain the plight of small towns in rural NSW.
When the banks left town and commodity prices dropped many businesses closed and services declined. Persistent drought and a downturn in the rural economy exacerbated the problems our small community was facing. In 1999, when told our post office was also going to close, the community decided to fight back.
The post office was purchased and after some renovations a strategic plan for the town was developed.
It was soon realised that the community needed to diversify its economic base - tourism was hoped to
be the potential saviour.
The plan was to set up a tourist info centre. A local resident (Peter Simpson) offered the venue where is rural plumbing business had been operating - the site of the former majestic hall - for purchase for $5000 (valued at $40,000). Peters' portrait has been painted on the back of the building through the courtyard.
Work quickly began to bring the building up to scratch to meet the vision of the committee. Work was completed through many working bees involving all aspects of the Gulargambone community and surrounds.
Since its humble beginnings Two Eight Two Eight continues to strive. Check out the cabinet near the front entrance to view our collection of awards.
Two Eight Two Eight now boasts a thriving cafe, craft shop with local produce and handmade souvenirs, secondhand bookshop, catering service, function venue - including weddings and employment for local youth.
Pave the way to Gular Art Festival brought world class art works to town and saw the beautification of the main street with new works added annually.
