In the fabric of our communities, there exists a quiet struggle affecting a significant portion of our population. It's the challenge of visual dysfunction—a condition often overlooked yet impacting one in three individuals. Visual problems can be misdiagnosed as dyslexia, ADHD, emotional disorders, etc. Without proper screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, millions of children and adults are suffering needlessly. The consequences are tangible and widespread, hindering success in both education and work.
Children in special education are 3 times more likely to drop out of high school, and high school dropouts are almost 4 times more likely to end up in prison than graduates. Although schools see the symptoms of vision problems, they are not equipped to diagnose and treat them. Only developmental optometrists can do that.
Given the high prevalence of these disorders and the pressing need for effective treatment, Sue Lavin Mann founded Bright Minds Processing, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Florida. Sue learned about visual processing problems while researching the causes and solutions to her own children's struggles with education.
Enter Sue Lavin Mann and Michelle Kotler, two remarkable individuals driven by compassion and expertise. A retired San Francisco police officer, Sue has devoted herself to the mission of helping as many people with visual processing problems as possible. Through her nonprofit, Sue has become a passionate champion for these individuals. Bright Minds' advisory board includes preeminent doctors working to solve their patients' visual and auditory processing deficits and bring this message to a wider audience. Similarly, Michelle Kotler, Esq. is a passionate advocate for children with special needs, particularly those with visual impairment. With Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Special Education and almost 30 years' experience in the field, Michelle brings her unique perspective as an educator and attorney to her legal and educational advocacy work.
Their journey has led them to a crucial opportunity—a national College of Vision Development conference in April 2024. Here, they plan to connect with specialists, advocate for policy changes, and foster collaboration to create better outcomes for individuals struggling with academic challenges. However, they need your help to make this vision a reality.
Your generous donations will help cover essential travel expenses, including airfare and transportation to and from the conference venue. Additionally, your support will provide accommodation for Sue and Michelle during their stay. Furthermore, your contributions will assist in covering conference expenses such as registration fees, materials, and any other necessary costs.
Your support can empower Sue and Michelle to attend and potentially present at this important event, where they'll have the opportunity to amplify their message and effect positive change. With your generosity, we can break down barriers and provide hope to those facing the silent struggle of visual dysfunction.
Every contribution, no matter how small, has the power to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and families affected by these challenges. Join us in our mission to create a brighter future for all. Together, we can make a difference. Donate now and be a part of something truly impactful.
