That's the reality for the Croatian Six, six Australian men convicted to 15 years prison each in 1981, evidence can now support they did not commit – welcome to the longest trial in Australian history that also gravely sullied the name and reputation of all proud Croatians. A true story about David vs a taxpayer funded Goliath seeking to finally examine if there was a miscarriage of justice, including examining police conduct during and after the arrests.
All six men were released after it became clear the star witness infiltrated the Croatian community in Australia with intentions to cause grave reputational harm and fabricated his story of plans to commit terrorist acts. Their innocence has never been recognised nor tested in a court of law. That is happening now in the Judicial Inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Declassified ASIO documents reveal that the key witness against the Croatian Six was an agent of the Yugoslav secret service UDBA. This was withheld by Roy Whitelaw, Assistant Commissioner NSW police at the time as he was concerned that ASIO information could “blow a hole right through the police case”. Government and law enforcement agencies appear to have worked to suppress evidence that would likely have exonerated the Croatian Six. Tax payer funds are being used to defend police conduct which includes the notoriously corrupt Roger Rogerson and other known corrupt police officers involved in this case...
